Workshop Photography

How do you tell a real story through photography? Photography can be a powerful way to visualise a story. However, photography is a language on its own with its own vocabulary and grammar, its own possibilities and limitations. In this workshop, Rachel and Laurens will focus on the basics of storytelling and what kind of photos it takes to tell that story. They will also cover briefly how to produce photofilms (this a video mainly using still photography and sound). In photofilms storytelling techniques and photography may come together in a compelling way.

Rachel Corner is an independent documentary photographer and also works as a freelance (commissioning) picture editor for e.g. De Groene Amsterdammer, Artsen Zonder Grenzen and The Ministry of Social Affairs.

Laurens Nijzink studied Human Geography, did a few of years anthropological research in West Africa (Benin and Burkina Faso) and drifted into journalism. He worked for Radio Netherlands Worldwide and is currently freelance journalist and part-time working for ZAM magazine.

Registration required. Costs €15,- (whole day, including lunch & drinks). For registration and more information on the event and other workshops, click here
