Travelling heritage highlighted in interdisciplinary photo exhibition

Today, heritage and migration go hand in hand more than ever before. For many reasons, people move around the world, and so does their heritage. What happens to this heritage and what role does this play?

In 2017 and 2018 LeidenGlobal had a call for researchers, connected to the LeidenGlobal partners, including Leiden University, to submit a photograph with their interpretation of 'Heritage on the Move'. From the submitted photographs and related research, both years a selection was made for an offline and online exhibition.

The very colourful exhibition now consists of 18 photographs of Leiden researchers with their vision on the subject of 'Heritage on the Move': the change of (cultural) heritage through and/or during migration. People move around the world, sometimes voluntarily and sometimes without a choice. In this process people may change, but so does the cultural heritage on the move.

In December for the first time the complete exhibition with all 18 selected photographs in one place, was shown to the public. At the opening, after a brief introduction by the Chair of LeidenGlobal, Gert Oostindie, three researchers highlighted their photo and related research. Afterwards the researchers/photographers could be approached during drinks.

The exhibition is on display from 3 December 2018 till 7 January 2019
